October Devlog

Hello! This is the first devlog for the game. I plan to do these at least once a month. October was a semi-busy month. I got a bunch of stuff done, but unfortunately not as much as I had planned. The goal was to have 2 new cars and 2 new sectors done for a new playable itch version. So far I got 1 car and 2 blockouts done. A lot of other stuff which had to do with the core game loop and the game feel came up, and I had to prioritize that. Hopefully I will have a new version up on itch by the end of November (or early December).

New stuff

  • Added a small Kei truck. A car you can unlock by beating a planned ice lake track. (I mean, look! Fun!)
  • Added a car inspired by Silvia S14, a classic japanese drift car.
  • Removed the placeholder car in the current itch version, but a new version of that car will be in the game later.
  • Added car selection screen in the main menu.
  • Implemented FMOD, which will handle most of the sounds in the game.
  • Added ghost car (still needs lots of work.)
  • Added rival car, which will act as a “level boss”.
  • Created some new 3d model trees.

Improvements

  • Re-created a big part of the car controller from scratch, added gears (and the choice of manual or automatic transmission), and overall better control over all parameters.
  • Re-created and fine tuned a lot of the textures and 2d sprites.
  • Resized sector 1, it’s a bit smaller and tighter than before.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed a bug where reverse would sometimes not work.
  • Fixed a bug where the speed of the car would be too jerky when shifting down.
  • Fixed a bug where the race timer had wrong formatting when going over a specific time.
